When the cat’s away, the mice ( and rats) come out to play! The same applies for businesses that were closed during lockdown.

We’ve had quite a few companies contacting us for rodent control services after they were allowed to reopen.

You might not have seen an actual mouse or rat scurrying around, but there are various signs to look out for:

Rodent Droppings

Rats and mice produce up to 40 droppings per night. It is dark brown in colour and shaped like rice grains. IT tends to be found concentrated in specific areas.

Dirt Marks

Rodents aren’t known for their hygiene and their little bodies can get quite dirty, leaving smudges and dark marks on the routes they frequent. Be on the lookout for these dirt smears along skirting boards and walls.

Nests

Rats and mice make cosy nests from shredded materials they collected. Look out for these nests in the attic, loft or even wall cavities.

Foot Prints

Rats and mice will leave a trail of footprints in dusty areas. To establish if an infestation is active, sprinkle fine flour or talc in the area near the footprints and check for fresh tracks the next day.

Scratching Noises

Rats and mice are agile climbers and can be found seeking shelter in roofs. When it is quite, especially at night, you will hear them running around making scratchy sounds. Brown rats can even be heard grinding their teeth!
