During the late spring and early summer, ants begin building their mounds and start searching for food, and if we’re not careful they may start taking up residence in our homes.
Here are a few tips to help you prevent ants from entering your home.
Lookout for scout ants
Ants send out scouts to see where they can find sources of food. If you see ants in your kitchen or living area, you will be guaranteed there will be more ants on their way!
Keep it clean
Ants’ major reason to invade your home is for food. If you leave food scraps around, it will be an open house invitation for ants. Don’t leave dirty dishes out, sweep & vacuum regularly and wipe down surfaces after a spill, even a small drop of juice will attract ants.
Store food properly
If you keep sugar just in the paper packet, ants will find their way in! Store food in sealed containers.
Seal off cracks and entrances to your home
Sealing cracks around windows and doors and the foundation of your home with caulking can eliminate many of the obvious entrances for ants to use.
Remove ant trails
If you’ve already developed an ant problem, it’s important to identify where they’re coming from and eliminate their trails to prevent them from continuing to enter your home. A simple application of a vinegar/water mix along the length of the ant trail will disrupt the ants and force them to find a new path to their food source.
